Riso Pop is a small risograph studio in Amsterdam run by Aafke Mertens.
Risograph is a print process which combines the best of digital and traditional print: a hand-made look and feel with the speed, low-cost and efficiency of a modern printer.
Though it looks on the outside like a copy machine, the Risograph is not a copier. It is a duplicator with a process like screen printing.
The Riso duplicator internally creates a stencil that is laid onto a drum filled with ink. The drum then spins at high speed, forcing the ink through the stencil onto the paper, where it is absorbed creating a unique look and texture. Read more here
The riso model at the studio is as MZ-770 and the largest size is
A3 - 420mm x 297mm
Preferably the range in which you should stay is between 80gsm and 300gsm, uncoated paper.
Nope - Riso is for paper only.
I’d love to meet you! If you’d like to visit the studio, please get in touch beforehand. Riso Pop is located in a shared space and I am not here on a daily basis.
Currently due to COVID-19 no visits are limited.
This is only possible if:
You’ve done a Taster OR Advanced Workshop with me,
If you have actual experience on handling a riso printer. Please get in touch so we can talk.
I would recommend you to take one of the workshops at the studio (or online). For one-on-one paid sessions please get in touch.
I’m currently only printing for others in the form of collaborations. Due to the amount of space available I offer very limited printing services on demand. If you need printing services I recommend De Kijm & Zonen
Are you an illustrator or graphic designer looking to experiment, try out new techniques and you’re happy to take the time? Then get in touch! I’m happy to sit down and chat about your project or set one up together so we can create the best output possible.
