When one engages in the fantasy world of puppets, that person is creating an inner imaginary world of their own where the characters and settings are real places, even though consciously one is aware they are watching wood, felt, or plastic. How does the evening look like?
We open our studio doors at 6:30pm for anyone who’d like to meet Ryoko and Shinsuke from HandSawPress and delve into the creative treasures brought straight from Tokyo! We’ll have drinks and snacks and if weather allows, our garden will be open to you all :) - a mini borrel!
Riso Puppetry Workshop
Start 7:30pm
Ryoko and Shinsuke will give us a small presentation about their journey and passion for puppetry as a medium for community engagement and storytelling.
From here you’ll be encouraged to craft your own enchanting characters. You wil work on a traditional paper puppet that you can customise as you like.
We will be using the riso printer to bring your puppet to life!
We’ll also enoucrage everyone to share stories with fellow participants in this interactive session.
We will have templates and materials ready for you! Just bring your imagination.
No experience needed! :)

Who is Handsawpress?
Handsawpress is a radiograph studio based in Tokyo Japan. They work with both local and international artists. Founders Ryoko and Shinsuke are currently visiting Europe to delve deeper into puppetry and will make this special visit to our studio.
I was lucky to visit and stay at their new space last September and excited to host them our place!
