Welcome to the Riso Pop Summer course of 2022!
During the last week of August you are invited to join us for a 4 day riso experience. Full days of learning, experimenting and lots of printing! Scroll down the page to read more.
When and Where?
The course will take place from Monday the 22nd to Thursday the 25th of August at Riso Pop, Kurgestraat 36h in Amsterdam. The course will be from 10am to 5pm, with lunch break in between.
What can you expect?
During these 4 full days of riso you will learn all the ins and outs of this printing technique. The main goals of this course are:
for you to feel confident at the printer,
to develop your personal project using riso and finding your own voice within this extensive technique,
to offer you the opportunity to work at the studio at your own pace, and for sure, have fun!
How is the course set up?
The course is divided into 2 parts: Printing and Experimenting & Personal Project. As you can see in this brief schedule below, the day is split into these two parts.
Printing & Experimenting
At the beginning of each day we will start by introducing the different ways you can use the riso printer, building up from analogue to digital. For each module you will have a small printing exercise so you can understand how each technique works and how to apply it to your personal project.
The modules we will be covering are:
The Scanner (Intro to riso & playful textures)
Spot Colour Printing (Digital files and mixing colours)
Photography for Riso (Duotone & CMYK separations)
Your Personal Project
For the duration of this course you will work on your own personal project. Before the course beings, you will receive some prompts to help you think about what you can work on and how to prep before the course starts (such as gathering inspiration, what is possible within the time frame and examples.)
It will be part of the course to develop your project, planning and setting up a printing schedule. You will go home with a series of prints within your chosen subject.
Why a summer course?
Riso Pop is know for its one-off workshops, which are a great way to start learn about risograph printing.
By organizing a summer course, I wanted to offer not only more time to work on a printing project, but to be able to offer a more intimate and hand-on approach to the printing experience.
Through coming back every day, I hope participants will get into their creative zones without distractions of daily life and feel less pressure than in a regular workshop where time is of the essence.
This is also why this will be a small course with max 5 participants.
