Welcome to the Riso Pop Winter course:
Analogue Techniques for Riso
Start the new year full of creativity! Join me in this 5 week course, where we will meet on Saturday mornings to draw, paint and create fun and exciting riso prints!
This course is for those who like working with their hands and would like to learn how to use these techniques for risograph printing.
When and Where?
The course will start on Saturday the 14th and will end in Saturday the 11th (which includes one weekend to work at home) The course will be from 10am to 2pm, so you can also enjoy the rest of your weekend.
What can you expect?
During these Saturday mornings you will how to approach this printing technique from an analogue point of view. The main goals of this course are:
for you to feel confident with the printer,
for you to explore drawing/painting techniques and how they translate into print,
to develop your personal project using riso and finding your own voice within this extensive technique,
to offer you the opportunity to work at the studio at your own pace, and for sure, have fun!
How is the course set up?
The course is divided into 2 parts: Experimenting with Materials & Personal Project. As you can see in the course is split into these two parts:
Experimenting with Materials
To start the course we will look at how the machine works in order to understand what we need to take into consideration when preparing for our project. With the help of fun exercises, you will explore various materials and start printing right away.
The modules we will be covering are:
The Scanner (Intro to riso, scanner modes and layers)
Materials: (pencils/graphite, inks & watercolours, textures & collage)
Digital media help (how to use digital software to help)
Your Personal Project
For the duration of this course you will work on your own personal project. Before the course beings, you will receive some prompts to help you think about what you can work on and how to prep before the course starts (such as gathering inspiration, what is possible within the time frame and examples.)
On week 3, after the experimentation part, you will get a day to work from home and continue working on your final piece(s). It will be part of the course to develop this project, it’s planning and setting up a printing schedule. You will go home with a series of prints within your chosen subject.
Why a this course?
Riso Pop is know for its one-off workshops, which are a great way to start learn about risograph printing.
By organizing a longer course, I wanted to offer not only more time to work on a printing project, but to be able to offer a more intimate and hand-on approach to the printing experience.
As an illustrator myself I like to work with various materials, and through this course I would like to show you what is possible outside the digital options.
Through coming back on a weekly basis, I hope participants will get into their creative zones without distractions of daily life and feel less pressure than in a regular workshop where time is of the essence.
This is also why this will be a small course with max 5 participants.
