Who says you can't do Riso Online?

Who says you can't do Riso Online?

Continuing from the previous post on how Riso Pop is adapting to the current situation, I wanted to share with you my insights of the first ever Online Taster Workshop! This workshop took place in April with 7 participants.

The exciting developments were:

  • To be able to give the workshop to people from other countries, in this case, participants from Ireland and Germany.

  • Due to the online environment, the participants had a bit longer than a week to work on their piece. This resulted in more detailed prints.

  • Thanks to having specific time-slots per person I was still able to have a personal conversation with everyone.

The challenges I found:

  • Being dependant on technology - specifically internet connections and pixelated screens… but found creative solutions by sharing printing results on Instagram stories.

  • Sadly, due to the internet, it is hard to create a ‘group vibe’ which you would normally develop in real-life workshops. But I hope that by sharing everyones instagram accounts and having some time to chat with each other, this was also a good solution.

  • Posting everything safely is also a challenge; I didn’t want any of these envelopes to get lost in the mail! This was definitely a stressful part…

Here are some snapshots of the prints!

The best part of both online or real-life workshops is to see the variety of styles and ideas that people bring to the table. From very graphic styles, to collage or detailed pencil work. Riso can do it all!

If after reading this you are interested in joining an Introduction to Risograph workshop (also known as Taster Workshop) there’s still places available for the June version!

For who is this workshop? For anyone interested in learning what is Risograph and how this printing technique works. You don’t need to know how to draw - you can also work with collage, photographs, text or hand-lettering (anything as long as it fits under the scanner).

If you like these prints - check out the Pop Shop to see if they are featured there!
